Founded in 1817, Rochester Hills, Michigan, is a vibrant city just north of Detroit. The area went through several names, such as Avon Township and the City of Rochester, until settling on the current name in 1984. The town has been listed as one of the "Best Places To Live" by Money Magazine.

Visitors can walk through buildings and farmhouses from the 1800s, including Joshua Van Hoosen's Big Barn. The barn displays the original tools and work schedules of the Van Hoosen family, who contributed to the early economy and development of Avon Township. You can learn about the 12-foot snow drifts during the Blizzard of 1886, which at the time was the largest snowfall in Michigan history. 

The Yates Cider Mill dates back to 1863 when it was only the Grist Mill. In 1876, the family added a cider press, and they have been producing 100% all-natural cider ever since. You can stop by for some cold, fresh pressed cider or order a batch online.

Rochester Hills has many community-hosted events, especially around Borden Park. One popular attraction is the Festival of the Hills, featuring music, art, fireworks, and a movie night.
